We all know that the realms of social media can be quite snarky at times — remember the #BroughtByANC campaign?. But tomorrow, the country’s ruling party will take to the social media streets again to get it’s message out ahead of next’s year’s elections.
ANC KwaZulu-Natal chairman Senzo Mchunu will host “live chats” on Facebook and Twitter from 1pm, according to a statement issued this afternoon. The Twitter handle is @ANCKZN, or you can follow the #ANCKZN tag. For Facebookers, you’ll have to go to the party’s page.
What will be spoken about? According to the statement, a “variety of issues”. These include the ANC’s readiness for the elections and the party’s achievements in government.
I have my suspicions, however, that Twitterville is going to take this into hyperdrive — and that it could backfire on the party. While I have no doubt that the actual discussions and debates will be interesting, it’s the inevitable snarky, caustic and (definitely) funny side comments will be the ones that dominate. And those comments are the ones I’m looking forward to the most.
I can’t wait to see where you all go with this…
