“Any fool can make something complicated. It takes a genius to make it simple” ― Woody Guthrie (American singer-songwriter).
I couldn’t help thinking as I watched Dan Patlansky last night that he just made it look so simple. And by “it” I refer to some of the most incredible guitar work you’ll ever listen to or see performed. The man is incredible.
I’m by no means a music critic — and this is by no means a review of last night’s gig — but I can definitely tell when I’m listening to and watching something special. Last night, that’s exactly what I watched and listened to.
From playing a Jimmi Hendrix riff with one hand (!!!) to one of the most hauntingly beautiful renditions of “Hallelujah” you’ll ever hear, Patlansky was simply outstanding. In the words of my wife, Megan: “I was mesmerised. It felt like I was in a trance.”
Patlansky is back in the studio recording a new album in January and will take it on tour in March/April next year. If he’s in your city, you simple have to watch him. Simple genius at it’s best.
