Latest #rhinopoaching stats

A sad and disturbing email just landed in my inbox. It’s from the Department of Environmental Affairs and provides the latest rhino poaching statistics. As you can imagine, it isn’t very nice reading at all.

Krugar National Park is the worst-hit, as you might imagine. KZN is next, followed by the North West, Limpopo and Mpumalanga. Apparently, and sadly, Gauteng had its first incident of poaching this year over the course of the week.

At least, on a positive note, the department confirmed that 101 people have been arrested for poaching this year. It’s not enough — granted — but at least it’s a start.
