Got nothing to do tomorrow morning? It’s Pietermaritzburg, so of course you don’t. JOKES! Calm down.
Seriously, though, if you’ve got a gap on Saturday morning, this might be something quite cool to take the lighties to. Maritzburg United are hosting a “fan day” at the Harry Gwala Stadium from 9.30.
According to a press release I received, the squad will interact with supporters and you’ll even have a chance to beat them at their own game.
“Do you think you can beat Delron Buckley at foosball? Do you have the ability to take on and Mthokozisi Yende at FIFA ’13 on PS3? Can you dribble better than Philani Zulu? Have you always wanted to have your photo taken with Mario Booysen? Do you want Shu-Aib Walters autograph?” asks the press release.
At the end of the fan day, the players will have an open training session, so you can see how the team gets ready for its matches. Apparently there are also “fantastic prizes” to be won, including replica kits and match tickets. So check it out. It could be quite cool.
Oh, yeah, and the league trophy will be there, which is the closest the team and its supporters are ever going to get to it. And, no, that’s not a joke.
