Let’s be honest, it hasn’t been a great few seasons for the KZN cricket team, the Dolphins. They’ve shown glimpses of potential but nothing that inspired any significant amount of hope for supporters.

Maybe this is the little bit of a boost they needed… A new sponsor sometimes means a new direction (sponsors supply the money and can force a few changes – it’s an unwritten thing that nobody likes to admit) for the team. That could be just what is needed.

Here’s the press release received this morning on the sponsorship annoucement:

21 June 2011, Durban.A partnership between two iconic Kwa-Zulu Natal brands, both of which share a special interaction in the lives of people across the province, has just been realized!

Sunfoil Pure Sunflower Oil, KZN’s no1 selling cooking, together in partnership with KZN’s provincial cricket heroes, the Dolphins, is proud to introduce The Sunfoil Dolphins!

“The cricket loving fans of the KZN Dolphins are also family people whose hearts are as much at home enjoying a home cooked meal together, as they are when they’re cheering on every Dolphins victory at the stadium.” said Shoaib Moosa, Sales and Marketing Director of Willowton Group, the manufacturers of Sunfoil Pure Sunflower Oil.

Jesse Chellan, Kwazulu Natal Cricket Union Chief Executive Officer commented, “A key element of this partnership is the strategic fit. Both Kwazulu Natal Cricket Union and Willowton Group share the vision of making the Sunfoil Dolphins the most recognisable cricket brand in the country and in the time rivalling the Sharks, the Bulls, Kaiser Chiefs and Orlando Pirates as the premier sporting brands in the country.

Secondly the Moosa family are ardent and passionate supporters of the Dolphins cricket, so they are cricketing people who understand and support the game.”

With the Dolphins cricket team and the Sunfoil brand currently playing a positive role in the lives of people in KZN, the two powerhouses look forward to its fans continuing their support by getting behind the Sunfoil Dolphins team.

The Willowton Group proudly manufactures Sunfoil Pure Sunflower Oil. A family owned business that was started 41 years ago. With high-quality brands such as Sunfoil, Sunshine D, d’lite and Nuvolite to name a few, the Willowton Group competes with the top International players in the South African FMCG market.
With manufacturing facilities situated in Pietermaritzburg, Johannesburg and Cape Town, the business is built on pillars of excellent service, quality and ongoing investment in technology and human resources.

The process to find a replacement for Nashua as team sponsor for the Dolphins commenced about ten months ago.

“Ideally, we were looking for a KZN based multinational and approached, approximately 10 companies. After several months of negotiations, the shortlist was down to 3 companies, with Willowton Group being selected as the final preferred partner, commented Jesse.

“The synergy between these two great brands couldn’t be closer and the added value this partnership brings to the loyal customers who support them is something we are extremely excited about!” Shoaib Moosa added.

From their homes to the game, the Sunfoil Dolphins will get Durbanites excited with an interactive pre season marketing campaign that will have loyal fans blow away by all that is in store for them in the 2011/2012 cricket season!
