Mind your lyrics!

Sometimes you just can’t protect people from their own stupidity. It’s true. Think about it. Some people will just make stupid decisions all the time. You can advise them, but it doesn’t matter. Sometimes you just can’t protect people from their own stupidity.

Some thought really should have gone into Rihanna teaming up with Eminen on "Love the Way You Lie"...

Take Rihanna as a perfect example.

Not too long ago the singer was a victim of domestic violence. You know, that whole thing with Chris Brown. Judging by the pictures that surfaced, she was beaten pretty badly. Brown got punished, the two split.

Fast forward to a few months ago, when Eminen and her decide to collaborate on a track. This is a good idea. I don’t like either of them, but both are “edgy” and extremely popular. The track would do well no matter what. But they decided to work together on “Love the Way You Lie”.

Here are some lryics from that track:

Just gonna stand there
And watch me burn
But that’s alright
Because I like
The way it hurts
Just gonna stand there
And hear me cry
But that’s alright
Because I love
The way you lie
I love the way you lie
I love the way you lie.

Shocking image of Rihanna after the Chris Brown incident. Did this not pop into her head when she decided to collaborate with Eminem? It should have. Surely. You swore you’ve never hit ‘em
Never do nothing to hurt ‘em
Now you’re in each other’s face
Spewing venom
And these words
When you spit ‘em
You push
Pull each other’s hair
Scratch, claw, bit ‘em
Throw ‘em down
Pin ‘em
So lost in the moments
When you’re in ‘em
It’s the rage that took over
It controls you both”

So, let me get this right… Rihanna’s “people” (PR, marketing, management, whoever) thought it would be a good idea for a victim of domestic abuse to sing how she “loves” the way the person who abused her lies? They honestly thought this would be a good idea? Maybe I’m just a stickler for not wanting women to be abused, but this sounds a little stupid to me. Did she not think – even for the shortest of moments – that maybe she’s not setting the right example for victims of domestic violence? Surely at some point this must have crossed her mind. Surely…

Sometimes you can’t protect people from their own stupidity. And, clearly, in this case you can’t.

  1. The song is doing very well, actually on high rotation accross the radio stations and music channels. After you have alluded to this fact it is now that I’ve started paying attention to the lyrics and the message they carry. Not so long ago, this is the woman whom we were falling over ourselves and feeling pity for, yet she seems to have forgotten all about that. She is the traitor!
